Thursday Thought - Faith, Hope or Love.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Faith, Hope or Love. Which is most important? 1 Corinthians 13:13 says this. "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
I've been thinking this week about why love would be the most important. Having faith that could move mountains, seems exciting and powerful, something that would really get attention. Can you imagine the news headlines if someone were to literally move the mountains because of their deep faith? Seems like that would grab more attention than someone who loved well. What does love even look like? 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 Tells us what love is and what it is not. Love is patient, kind, rejoices in truth, protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres. Love does not dishonor others, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no records of wrongs, and doesn't delight in evil.
Love is about our actions and reactions towards others, not about who had the biggest headline or the most accomplishments. Love is about having the right mindset and a heart that is in the right place. But the best news is that a combination of faith, hope and love can accomplish all of this together. May we have faith that's big enough to move mountains, hope that gives us assurance, and love that changes hearts and brings people to Jesus. That's what Jesus did and what he wants us to do too.
