Friday Devotional – Psalms 44
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
This last week we enjoyed our Pizza Ranch National Conference out in Keystone, Colorado. Wow was it awesome. So much fun, so meaningful. I felt the presence of the Lord in all of it. Even during a couple potential pain points I felt the Lord’s covering. It made me feel really proud. It made me appreciate Pizza Ranch, beauty in nature, and all our people. I have had this overwhelming feeling to tell everyone about it. To boast about what God has done.
I hope that as we look at our passage today, that we see that boasting can be good. I’m not talking about the boasting of self. So many people get caught up in talking about themselves and their accomplishments, and they love for everyone to hear about it. Today we’re looking at (Psalm 44) another chapter that has so, so much stuff in it. But as I read through it, something popped off the pages at me. Psalm 44:8 says, “In God we boast all day long, and (with that) will praise your name forever.”
The Psalmist states that he boasts in the Lord and what He does. He realizes that He is limited in what he can and cannot do. The same thing is true with us. While we are made in God’s image, we are so much more limited. So we boast in all the God does instead. By doing this, it takes the glory off us, and puts it where it belongs. It puts the focus on God. Boasting in His blessings, love, grace and mercy. Giving Him praise.
I pray today that each of us will see all that God has done in our lives. That we would recognize all the good. That we would continue to tell our story of God’s faithfulness. And that we would point folks to Christ by the how we live our lives.
