Friday Devotional - Shout it out
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
We’ve been slowly walking through the Book of Psalms, and this week we’re looking at (Psalm 47). The Psalms do such a great job of talking about the topics and emotions we most often deal with in life.
There’s so much in this chapter, each verse is full of wisdom we can soak in, use, and grab hold of daily.
What stood out to me in this passage is the word “shout” found in verse 1. Verse 1 says, “Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.” Although I’m not sure I would characterize this as a command, there are 15 passages in the Bible that people are commanded to shout. I have early recollections for example, of the story of Jericho. When the people of Israel shouted as one, the walls of Jericho came crumbling down. The shouting of many people can be powerful. The shouting of one can be as well. Psalm 47 includes 5 reasons to shout with praise.
5 reasons to shout with praise found in Psalm 47:
- When we recognize a time of triumph…vs 1, 9
- When we recognize the Lord as most high and awesome…vs 2
- When we recognize God’s Kingship over us and all the earth…vs 2, 6, 7, 8
- When we recognize God’s special care for us and all His people…vs 3
- When we recognize our inheritance in Him…vs 4, 9
When was the last time you shouted in praise?? May we each recognize and claim all that God is and does…then shout, sing, and praise God because of it. May He be exalted.
