Monday Mission - What is the center or your life?
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
In church on Sunday, our pastor asked us if Jesus the center of your life? I’m sure we’d all say yes or want to say yes, but the fact is for most of us, most of the time, the center point of our life is ourselves. Typically, this is a comfortable, stable place to be. The downside is that you don’t grow or change in this place. You just don’t see the need; you are comfortable where you are. The hard part is, it usually takes something significant to knock us out of the center…falling in love, having a child, health issues, losing someone close to us, death. In these places we learn other things that matter more than our happiness. Here we need to put others before ourselves and most importantly need to have God the center of our lives to be able to navigate these situations. Jesus used parables to help teach about this concept. One great example is the prodigal son, Luke 15:11-24. The younger son thought he was the center of his world and could do whatever he wanted. Once he ran out of money and lost all his friends, he saw the truth. He had to hit bottom before he understood what really matters. And of course, the father is a great picture of our God just waiting for us with open arms to come home to Him. So, are you willing to be knocked off center so you can get to place where change, through the power of the Holy Spirit, can actually happen?
