So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

At the 9/11 memorial a few years back, we saw a video of a person looking up at the sky in horror. I could read their lips as they said, “Oh my god.” We also see this happen in movies, TV, and life when we (people) find ourselves in precarious situations. Or when we see an accident about to occur. Even folks who’s movie character does not portray Christ in any way will cry out “Oh god!” There comes a point where all of us, at some time or other, recognize there’s something more. We recognize our smallness.

For those who don’t know Christ, there doesn’t seem to be answers to why they cry out to God in those times. But they do. They cry out for help. They cry out for answers. This is not so crazy because we were originally created to have complete fellowship with God. But after Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, humans lost that relational/spiritual dimension once enjoyed with God. There’s now something missing. There’s confusion. There’s a void. It makes things fuzzy. And so every once in a while, like in the examples above, there’s a brief recognition of it as folks cry out to God.

For those of us who know Christ, there is an answer, and His name is JESUS. THE REASON FOR THE SEASON. When we claim Christ, the spiritual dimension is returned to us. We recognize relationship with God. We recognize sin is in our life…and that we fall short. It’s not that we become somehow perfect…we become forgiven. It’s the gospel message. It’s grace. That empty void is filled. When we cry out “Oh my God” in the many situations we face in life, it will be because of that spiritual relationship he’s given back to us through Christ.

Unfortunately, many will not recognize it. They will not see it (see John 6:40). Sin is like a deadly, incurable disease with only one cure. Think about this, If you were bitten by a rabid dog and refused to receive the treatment. Doctors would say you died of rabies. But actually, you died because you refused the treatment. And so it is with sin…there’s only one cure, if you die in sin it is only because you have refused the cure God has offered. His name is Jesus.

Jesus’ 2nd coming is built on the resurrection, the resurrection is built on a sacrificial death, the sacrificial death is built on a sinless life, and the sinless life is built on the virgin birth. This is what we’re celebrating this coming week. As we enter into Christmas, may we understand and claim all the Truths of Scripture.
