Thursday Thoughts – Working in Paradise
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
This week we have talked a lot about work. We have discussed how God designed us to work in the garden and commanded us to work in the 10 commandments. But one question I have often pondered is what will work look like in Paradise?
If we know we are designed to work, and humanity was working alongside God in the garden before sin, we can conclude we will probably be working in the New Heavens and the New Earth too! Revelations 22:3 describes God's servants (us) "serving Him" in the New Kingdom, which seems to imply working. But what will that work look like?
Will the work we do in paradise be similar to the role we had on earth just without stress or turmoil? Will we have the same spiritual and physical gifts we had on earth or different ones? Will we do the same job for eternity, or will we still be growing, changing, and learning new roles?
Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to these questions, but I know that whatever work we will be doing in the New Kingdom we will be in fellowship with God, worshiping God, and working alongside & serving God - as humanity did in the Garden, but better.
