Monday Mission - Store up treasures in heaven
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Matthew 6:19-21 says "19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
What I like about this passage is that there is a clear reason why you want to store up treasures in heaven, and why you don't want to store up treasures on earth. Earthly things decay and die. They come and they go. But in heaven, everything is eternal. It is a reminder that we can live out heaven on earth by focusing on eternal things (loving God, reading and teaching the Bible and the Gospel to others, helping the needy, loving thy neighbor, etc.).
I also like how it ends with the comment about where your actions are stems from where your heart is. God sees our hearts even before we take action. But to other people, they see the actions first and then maybe can figure out the heart behind it. But to me what it is saying is that the actions we take as believers (where we go, what we look at, what we listen to, how we use what God has given us, etc.) shows God and other people what our heart intentions are. So, treasure actions that impact heavenly things and positively impact our relationship with God. Not only does that show it is where our heart is, but if we don't feel our heart is at one with God we can take actions on earth that can lead our heart to God.
