Monday Mission - Fulfilling the Law in Love
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Many of us have probably heard the simple breakdown of the 10 commandments – The first 4 commandments tell us how to love God, and the next 6 commandments tell us how to love others.
This summary comes from the New Testament and Jesus’s response to the question posed by the Pharisees in the gospels of Matthew (22:36-40), Mark (12:28-34), and Luke (10:25-28). “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Paul does an excellent job of describing what it looks like to follow God’s law through love in Romans 13: 8-10 “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
Let your Monday Mission for this week be to faithfully keep God’s law by loving God & loving others.
