Thursday Thought - Asking for Wisdom
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Do you ever pray and not fully expect God to answer or grant you what you’re asking for? I know that God can do all things, I know that the Bible says that God has good gifts and plans for His children, I know that the very nature of God is abundant love. Sometimes, however, I have a harder time believing with my whole heart that those things are completely true.
In my Bible reading this morning, I can across this verse in James 1:5-7:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord."
Notice that the Bible doesn’t guarantee that God will grant us anything we ask for; He’s not a genie. However, it does say that if we ask for wisdom and believe He will grant us that, then He definitely will. There’s so many things I pray about and ask God to reveal to me; but admittedly sometimes I don’t always whole-heartedly believe that God will show me His ways. In those moments, I also include a prayer of “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.” I trust that God knows my heart and that He will meet me in my obedience as well.
Keep praying and keep asking for wisdom; God will meet you where you are today, friend.
