Tuesday Truth - Temporary High

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

Tuesday Truths
High

Where are you searching for peace?

Where do you go to find joy?

When you "find it" how long does it last?

I think we all have those earthly things that we look to escape to after a long day or week of work. Maybe for you it is sitting down and losing yourself in a good book, or going to the movies to detach from reality, or perhaps you go for a long walk or run to clear your mind. We do these things to help find balance, find that peace and joy that helps to keep us going. However, in ALL those activities that temporary "high" never lasts, we have to keep going back again and again.

In Ephesians 5:18 Paul contrasts getting drunk with wine, which produces a temporary "high," to being filled with the Spirit, which produces lasting joy. Getting drunk with wine is associated with the old way of life and its selfish desires. In Christ, we have a better joy, higher and longer lasting, to cure our depression, monotony, or tension

Don't become too focused on finding that temporary high with earthly things, set your eyes and heart on something bigger, something that won't require you to come back for more again and again, something that will truly fill you.
