Tuesday Truths - Go To God In Prayer
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” With this being an election year, praying for our leaders and future leaders should be even more so on the front of our mind. Lifting these requests to God also needs to be something we regularly do. Reading Psalms 72 also has reminded me about the importance of praying for our leaders and petitioning God about our needs in general. The author of this passage prays for a large list of blessings for the king. These are not praises of the king, but requests being made for the king. They are attributes that can only be granted and provided by God. Verse 15b says, “May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “pray continually”. We need to keep talking to God and bringing our requests to Him. Making a habit of this will help us recognize He’s the source for all things and how desperately we need Him. God is so generous, even when we don’t ask, God show’s up, just like we saw with Solomon in yesterday’s post. He owns everything and loves to bless his children. God is such a good God to us, and the end of Psalms 72 reminds us to praise Him. Versus 18-19 say, “Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.”
