Encouragement in our lives, and the lives of others, can be life changing. In a world that can be difficult to navigate at times, hopefully this will inspire all of us.

The Bible is clear on this subject. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are meant to both give and receive encouragement.

Hebrews 10:23-25 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering…letting us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works…encouraging one another.”

Jesus knew the power of encouragement, and he used it by speaking life into the people he encountered. He encouraged the outcasts, the downhearted, the tired, the needy, the broken…etc.

A perfect example would be the story of Zacchaeus found in Luke 19:1-10. This man was cast out from society and hated by those around him. Jesus, to the dismay of others, encouraged him, spent time with him, and changed his life. The entire town was blessed by it.

Encouragement is powerful!

  1. It changes the trajectory of a person’s life
  2. It fills someone with courage and boldness
  3. It invigorates with a fresh set of eyes
  4. It validates who folks are…their effort
  5. It creates belief
  6. It improves attitude
  7. It promotes action

The tongue wields incredible power. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Choose to speak life today. Choose to honor and show grace to those around you. Choose to see grace in people. God intends that we both give and receive encouragement.

Who needs an encouragement around you today?
