Friday Devotional - Jesus In The Old Testament #1
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
I often wondered as I grew up, why the Old Testament was so important. I thought that the New Testament was something to focus on. But I’ve grown to appreciate and see how important Old Testament Scripture actually is. It comes down to this: The entirety of the Old Testament points to Jesus.
Today we’re looking in the Old Testament Book of Job. Here’s some example of how Job pointed to Jesus (Imagine a courtroom):
1) Job 9:32-35 … Someone must mediate between God and us. (It’s the person of Jesus Christ - 1 Timothy 2:5).
2) Job 14:14 … We will live again. (There is life after death because of Jesus – John 11:25).
3) Job 14:17 … Will cover my sins. (Jesus takes our sins upon Himself).
4) Job 16:19 … There is someone in heaven who is our witness. (He stands up for us. God sees us through His son Jesus and declares us not guilty – Hebrews 9:24).
5) Job 19:25 … There is someone who will save us from judgement. (Jesus lives in heaven now, but will stand again on earth when He comes again – Hebrews 7:24-25).
Job’s thoughts, problems, and questions are perfectly answered in the person of Jesus. May He be glorified because of it. And may each of us look to Jesus as well.
