Friday Devotional – Psalm 43
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
When my bride and I moved away from where we live now, we were gone for about 6 years, I often found myself longing to come back. I thought about our dear friends, our amazing church fellowship, and even the changes in weather. I even found myself trying to make some “deals” with God to make it possible for us to go home. Today we’re going to see something like this from King David.
We’ve been slowly walking through the Book of Psalms, and this week we’re looking at (Psalm 43). This particular Psalm is short but says a lot. It’s a prayer of distress as David is being chased by Absalom and wants to go home, to his home church, to God’s tabernacle, so He can worship (Harp). (2 Sam. 15-18). In this passage he uses 17 personal pronouns, 8 requests, 4 questions, and 3 vows from David. We quickly see that each verse is full of the wisdom we can soak in, use, and grab hold of daily.
Here’s what stood out to me in this passage. These first three points I can relate to, fully. I hope we can see that it’s okay to talk to God about anything. The last three points are things we can do for God.
- David crying out, “God, where are you?” I THINK this way sometimes.
- “God, why do you seem so distant?” I FEEL this way sometimes.
- “God, I need you!” “send me your light.” I SAY this sometimes. .
- “I will come to worship”
- “I will praise you.”
- “I will put aside myself.”
May we each feel free to cry out to God. Better yet, may we each put ourself aside, worshiping and praising no matter what comes our way.
