We’ve been slowly walking through the Book of Psalms, and this week we’re looking at (Psalm 36). The Psalms do such a great job of talking about the topics and emotions we most often deal with in life. There’s so much in this chapter, like always. There are 10 sins of the wicked, 10 things that are not good for us, and 4 requests of the righteous. This is wisdom we can soak in, use, and grab hold of daily.

What stood out to me in the passage is that although the darkness and evil of this world is all around us, we are not victims, we are not helpless. God gives us 5 examples of how we can live life abundantly and even partner with Him in doing good, using our gifts, justice, and revival in the world.

Example of what we receive:

  1. Love and faithfulness. That reaches the heavens. An unfailing love that encompasses all the realms and every condition. (vs 5, 7a)
  2. Righteousness and justice as high as the mountains and as deep as the seas. (vs 6)
  3. Refuge and protection under the shadow of His wings. Remain under it. (vs 7)
  4. Feast and drink. Receive, take part, and give away God’s abundance and goodness. The perfect buffet of life giving food and drink. (vs 8)
  5. Life and light. These two are often linked together. And this is the climax and summation of these verses. It points to the person of Jesus as the fountain of life. In His light, we are able to discern and know true light. (vs 9)

When we spend time in His presence, studying His Word, and knowing His voice we are immersed in His light, we are able to know His heart for the world.
