Highway to Heaven

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

What was the last car trip you went on? What do you remember from it?

How about the road? Was it bumpy or smooth? Do you remember that?

I subscribe to the Jesus Calling daily e-mails and last week, one of the days featured this thought: “When you remember that the road we’re traveling on is really a highway to heaven, the roughness or smoothness of the road becomes less important to you.”

My daughters have the Jesus Calling for Kids devotions book, so I went back and read the whole day’s page (July 27). It talked a lot about being on a journey with God and how He will never leave us. Even when things are rough and we don’t know how we will even take our next step, God is with us and we have our hope in Him that will carry us. “And when all you can see around you are huge problems, it is hope that gives you the courage to keep going.”

It’s doubtful that many of us will look back on 2020 and think, “Wow! That was an awesome year!” However, we can take heart and know that the hope – the highway to heaven – that we have is real. God is with us every step of the way, through rough patches and smooth patches, and will not ever let us fall from His hands or plan.

(Two key verses for that day’s devotional are Romans 12:12 and Hebrews 6:18-19 in case you want to look them up.)
