Monday Mission - Be a Light

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

Monday Mission
Matthew 5:14-16

Daylight savings time where we “fell back” an hour was 3 weeks ago; how are we all doing? Are you an early morning person who is loving the sunrises that are earlier now? Are you a night-owl who feels like we have an eternity of darkness every evening?

Wherever you fall on the spectrum, one thing that we can all agree on is that the moments of light in our days are fewer in the wintertime. Those hours we have between 8AM – 4:30PM are precious and tend to lift our souls. The minutes of warm sunlight even on a cold winter’s day give us just enough encouragement to remember that spring will eventually come.

Likewise, the Bible encourages us to be light to the world. We are supposed to shine our light as a city on a hill does – illuminating through the darkness that light that Jesus shines. The light that Jesus offers is one of hope; that the darkness won’t last forever and that His light will sustain us.

Today, what is one way that you can be a light? Maybe a friend needs to see Jesus and you’re just the person to be His hands and feet for them. Maybe that car behind you in the coffee drive-thru has a frantic or tired looking parent behind the wheel and paid-for coffee would bring more of a spiritual pick-me-up than the caffeine in the drink. Or maybe you need a reminder of Jesus’ light yourself and this post is meant for you today – a reminder that no matter your circumstances, Jesus offers love, hope and peace and actually wants to shine into your life. If you feel the Holy Spirit nudging you today, take it and be a light.

Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on tis stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
