Sometimes I receive what I refer to as “God nudges”; you know, those times that you keep receiving the same message over and over in various forms, until you FINALLY realize that God is sending you a message?
Lately, Gods “nudge” to me has been about forgiveness. It has shown up as a theme in books I’ve been reading, in the daily bible verses I receive each morning via email (if you haven’t signed up for something like this- I would highly recommend it!), I’ve stumbled across inspirational quotes about it, and even in the sermon I heard at church a few weeks ago! Nudge. Nudge. Nudge.
I’ve started reflecting and praying regarding people or situations in my life that I realize I haven’t fully offered forgiveness, including the situations that I have not forgiven myself. I know some of these acts of forgiveness are going to take some time and work to get there.
I’m also working building up my “forgiveness muscles”; practicing small acts of forgiveness throughout the day to help myself become comfortable with forgiveness as a part in my daily life. You know…the situations where someone cuts in front of you in traffic, or jumps the line with an overflowing cart at the grocery store? I’m working on those as well.
So, consider this my “nudge” to each of you…. Take a moment today and think about who/what/when times in your life you haven’t granted forgiveness- what can you do with God’s help to move away from anger, regret, sadness, and onto the life He truly wants us to live?
