Monday Mission - Small Steps

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

Monday Mission
One Step at a Time

How are we all doing on our New Year’s Resolutions? Some of us may have made a goal to work out more or lose a certain amount of weight. Others may have wanted to read the Bible more. Maybe there is a relationship that you want to fix this year. Many times, we have great goals in hopes to better ourselves. However, after a few months, weeks, or even days, we seem to sometimes fall right back into our same old habits. Why can it be so hard to start new habits or break old ones? For me, it’s trying to do too much too soon at an unsustainable rate.

If we want to work out more, we might go to the gym religiously for a week, but as soon as we start feeling tired or something else comes up, one day of not going to the gym quickly turns into multiple days, weeks, or even months. If you are trying to read the Bible more, you may read for 60 minutes a day for a few days, then find that it becomes harder and harder to fit this in every day. Before you know it, a week goes by and you haven’t read the Bible.

My mission for you today or this week is to start accomplishing your goals with SMALL STEPS. Start by going for a five-minute walk if you want to workout more. Start by reading one verse from the Bible a day if you want to read the Bible more. Start by sending someone a text saying you are thinking about them if you are trying to mend a broken relationship. Then, once you feel comfortable and get into a good rhythm, build slowly. You can do this!
