Monday Mission: Waiting isn’t Worthless.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Being in my mid-twenties, it seems as though everyone my age is in a season of waiting. Waiting for a promotion, waiting to buy a house, waiting for “the right one”, waiting to get engaged, waiting to get married, waiting to get pregnant, and the list goes on and on. It can be difficult watching friends in a season of waiting or go through one yourself. It got me thinking, what does the Bible have to say about waiting?
This week we will walk through passages of scripture that can give encouragement in a season of waiting. I thought we would start with some well-known verses from Ecclesiastes 3.
"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace."
These verses remind us that God created humanity to live in cycles and seasons. Just as God designed nature to grow and function in various seasons, he also designed humanity to live “seasonally”. In this fallen world, you will never live a life of ONLY mountain top experiences & instant gratification. You will experience hardship, trials, and waiting. God designed your life and each season in it with a purpose. So even in your stages of waiting for the next role/season, God has a purpose for you in your current season of waiting.
Your Monday Mission is to remember that whether you, or a loved one are going through a difficult season of waiting, know that this isn’t a mistake or wasted time. God has a reason for placing you in every season of your life – including waiting.
