Thursday Thought – Importance of Community
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
We can be surrounded by people all day, but sometimes not feel like we belong. Many voices, opinions and views bombard us daily, but those may not necessarily be healthy or what we know to be true.
One of my best friends lives in Minneapolis, so we don’t get to see each other very often. She had the idea to start a Zoom book club so that we would intentionally make time to talk and we both love to read. She grabbed her other best friend (who I have been lucky to get to know over the years) and we get to have near-weekly discussions about Christian-based books. I love it, to say the least.
Just the other day we were discussing the importance of knowing God’s voice and being rooted in His Word. Without knowing what the Bible says, it’s impossible to differentiate God’s voice from the other competing voices that Satan may use to confuse, mislead or distract us. I was reminded of the importance of community and how Christ-followers have an important privilege to gather together and spur each other on, tell the truth in love and be encouragers to each other.
Spend a moment thinking about which voices you allow in; any that should be muted? Who is part of your inner circle, your community? Praise God for them and pray that you will continue to listen to those who point you to Jesus.
