Thursday Thought – Unexpected Hope
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Every night before bed, I read a story out of our children’s Bible to my daughters. We just got into the New Testament, and we read the story in Luke 2 of how God sent a choir of angels to tell the lowly “riff-raff” shepherds about his Son who was born. The story of God telling the shepherds first about the birth of Jesus gets me every time. God could have told anybody, but He chose to give the very first glimpse of Hope to a group that most people didn’t like, tried to avoid and generally just disregarded. There’s unexpected Hope in this story; that God uses everyone in a strategic way and uses methods that we don’t expect. I can only hope that God will use us today in ways we may not think of and that He gives us unexpected Hope in places where we see only darkness.
