Thursday Thoughts - Context
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
In the book of Philippians, the Apostle Paul writes, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” What an inspirational and encouraging text. I'm sure you have heard it, read it, seen it tattooed on countless occasions. But have you ever looked deeper into what the verse means? It can easily be taken out of context to fit your agenda of how you'd like your life to improve or achieve success, but when you look into the full chapter it takes on a whole new meaning.
Paul says, "Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am." You see this verse is about contentment in whatever circumstance you find yourself in. In God we find the strength we need to persevere through the situations we find ourselves in.
Next time you see a verse taken out of context, dig deeper. Search for the deeper context so that you can realize the intended meaning.
