Imagine you are walking through the park with your family when you stumble upon a crowd listening to a man speaking. You've heard rumors about this man, some call him crazy, some say he is right on. He speaks with confidence, but hangs out in odd parts of town and with less than "innocent" people and he often publicly challenges the leaders of your town. As you approach that group, do you stop and listen or keep walking thinking it's a waste of time?

Couple thousand years ago many people had that exact situation; some chose to listen and even follow while many in the end chose to crucify him.
