In keeping with the theme of the 4th of July this week, let’s spend a minute talking about the freedom we find in Jesus. When Jesus came to earth, He came to set us free – free from sin, bondage, our own sideways leanings, the judgments of others, and so much more. The freedom He wants us to have is found in Him. Freedom to love God above all else; freedom to love our neighbors recklessly and overwhelmingly; freedom to do good and have compassion on others; freedom to give grace and mercy.
Some people think that God just has a big book of rules that list all the things we cannot do. From my perspective, it’s completely the other way around. There’s infinite ways that God wants to empower us to love and give to others, all in ways that point people back to Him. God displays this love through sending His Son, Jesus, to die in our place and that's where we find freedom in Him.
John 8:31-32 – If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
