We’ve all heard the phrase, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” We probably first heard this in our early years, whether in elementary school or daycare. Did you know that this verse is in the Bible?

11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

I don’t know about you, when I think of the Holidays peace is not often the first word that jumps to mind. In a busy season of life racing from church Christmas programs to work holiday parties and family gatherings, peaceful isn’t how I would pick to describe my month of December.

1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Content provided by Jenna Finkenhoefer. Here we are, one of my favorite weeks of the year…. THANKSGIVING! As a foodie, there is SO MUCH to love about the holiday. As a perfectionist (a BIG shout out to you Enneagram Type One’s out there like me!) there is SO MUCH to accomplish…and so much to be stressed about.

John 3:20-21 – “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

Moses’s first public miracle was turning water into blood. Blood symbolizes death. Jesus’s first public miracle was turning water into wine which symbolizes life. Moses was the law giver, while Jesus is the life giver and law fulfiller.

1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Hate multiplies hate in a descending spiral of violence. Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” What type of emotion comes over you when someone wrongs you? Do you feel compelled to get even or seek revenge? If so, this is not what Jesus calls us to do.
